Last year I was perusing Kickstarter to see if there were any new pieces of fitness tech I should be paying attention to. While there were some really interesting things, nothing seemed to grab my attention like an incredibly unique take on suspended body weight training.
The product was from The Wild Gym Company, LLC out of Boulder Colorado and it was designed to “make the world your gym” allowing you to workout anywhere. What caught my eye were two ultra portable 8″ hard maple wood handles, the size of two small flashlights weighing less than a pound each, housing the necessary pieces to allow you to do total body workouts as long as you had a sturdy surface to hang them from. Increasing total body strength feet to fingers was only limited by your imagination coming up with ways to do it.
They were called “monkii bars” and were supposed to be an amazing workout companion for outdoor enthusiasts, busy travelers wanting to keep up with their fitness programs and those who wanted to spice up their existing workouts. The idea looked interesting enough to buy a pair and give them a whirl.
How did they measure up? What made them different than current offerings in the category? What did they do for your workouts? Very well, quite a few things to be honest and blow the stability demands of bodyweight workouts through the roof would be the best ways to answer those questions.
I wrote a review on them and you can click here to see what I thought about my experience using monkii bars to build total body strength.
